I want Power 126cm x 89.5cm x 4.5cm

I love the look of graffiti inspired art, art that bursts with colour and life, that overlaps and displays a capacity for politics, life, unrest and belief systems all intertwining. That is what inspired this latest mixed media work.

I am heavily inspired by the use of colour, l think multi-coloured bright art brings passion, laughter, good heart and smiles within, artist great Jackson Pollock was heavily entrenched in utilizing colour to explore mood, l also believe that colour has the ability to change and alter mood. But unlike Pollock, l enjoy to bring the mood in a bright and colourful way to evoke a smile and good vibe.
This is a work that has a message of what is the world bringing today, the confusion, the joy, and dread, what am l doing here, however it is juxtaposed by the use of bright and happy colours confusing and challenging that underlying dread, and pushing the context of the work to believe in the greater good.

Door to Door Salesman 126cm x88cm x4.5cm

This is a collaborative mixed media work by Karen Elzinga and up and coming artist Zak Jeffery.
It was derived from the typical door to salesman experience of trying to be sold a tail of irrelevant literature, working from a script and being told anything to achieve a sale.

This was Zaks first job experience to which he lasted 2 days before deciding it wasn't for him.
It takes in the creepy underbelly of any worker who has ever tried to sell anything either when directed to by an employer or done themselves but selling a product that they don't necessarily believe in and in a way that just doesn't fit with the good and truth in life.

It is a multi layered work, bright, colourful and vibrantly rich in complexity, shading and tone.

Hey Mickey 86cm x 91.5cm x 4.5cm

DESCRIPTION

The inspiration for this painting came from the mickey mouse existence, " the unreal life" type of thing where everything looks one way but behind the scenes looks quite different, that false facade . It has a element of fun about but also a dark element about it also.

I wanted the paintings to have a grunge look about it, but with just a hint of colour and pattern sneaking through in the background. The whole painting is highly textured throughout and has 2 coast of high gloss varnish to protect it.

Karen Elzinga is a highly sort after acrylic painter, professionally trained with a double degree in Fine Art and Visual Culture from Curtin University in 2012 and has over 25 years painting experience.

The Portal - 173cm x 87.5cm x 4.5cm

Fractured - 142.5cm x 80.5cm x 4.5cm

This painting's photos do not do it justice, imagine the white being pure white not as photographed, to brighten would be to lose clarity in the fractured lines, l wanted to represent them as best l could so l tried not to lighten the image.
