Karen Elzinga Original acrylic painting 190.5cm x 114cm x 4.5cm

This painting has a white timber boarder frame around it (not pictured) which makes this work really pop with vibrancy and colour. From frontal view it extends 2cm out of the painting, side view its 4.5cm. Looks awesome!!

The painting is an intricate look into beach culture. It was inspired by ocean life, exploration and that holiday vibe. When you live near the beach in holiday locations this is the energy felt when your at the beach.

Beautifully painted and finished with a gloss sheen it is fully mounted and ready to hang with cord.
Karen Elzinga is a professionally trained artist with 25 years experience in painting, she has a double major degree in Fine Art and Visual Culture.

She sells her paintings all over Australia and overseas and her work is extremely unique and different.

"I love the beach, the vibrancy, the colour, the joy and excitement of beach goers, it's a great place to be, l enjoy taking the underwater environment and combining it with the coast line. I enjoy using colour to create exciting visual interpretations that take people back to earlier childhood memories" Karen Elzinga

Karen takes commissions, if you are interesting in her style of working and would like a painting of your favorite beach or setting.

"When l paint, my first love is doing justice to the over all aesthetic of the painting, l want the painting to have balance, flow, intricacy, but also have beautiful harmonious colour. I enjoy creating beach and underwater themed work because of the feeling l get when l'm in those places. I live on the Sunshine Coast where the beaches are some of the world's best. So to paint inspired by them is a joy.

In this work l was inspired to build a relationship between the above and below, so it gives the sense that the above has an impact on what happens below the ocean.
I enjoy painting large, my paintings impact viewers in a positive way, the vibrancy and colour take people back to childhood beach memories, and bring joy and happiness.

City by the Bay 173cm x 136cm x 4.5cm

Painting Inspiration

This painting was inspired by a recent trip to pick up my kids from schoolies. As l drove through Surfers paradise, l realized how encroaching the skyscrapers are to the sandy beaches, the two almost seeming like one giant entity. So my work concept was born.

I wanted to create a landscape where the hustle and bustle of any where in the world where the ocean meets city living is apparent.

I enjoy translating my work through the vigor and candor of colour and intricacy, l think it takes people on a journey of discovery and brings back often childhood memories of holidays by the beach.

Colour brings happiness, and l am highly motivated by colours, l feelings l get when painting or viewing a finished piece, its a real satisfaction.

I will not sell a painting that l don't personally love and would be happy to have it hang on my own wall, l have a deep connection to the paintings l do, they take a considerable amount of time, nurturing, and creativity to complete.

This work has a white timber boarder around it, this boarder looks fantastic and really makes the painting pop beyond belief. Looking straight onto the painting the boarder is about 2cm wide extending onto the painting, from the sides it is 4.5cm wide. It makes the work look polished and finished off. Please get in touch if you would like a picture of the timber boarder on the painting.
Karen Elzinga is a Bachelor trained artist with a double degree in Fine Art and Visual Culture from Curtin University and has been painting for over 25 years.

Her work is very sort after as investment art, feel good art, display home art, office art and with one purchaser saying they built there new house around her art , karen's work size and vibrancy is sure to make a statement in the homes of beach lovers.

Admit One Movie Marathon 171.5cm x 143.5cm x 4.5cm

Painting Description

This painting is an acrylic on canvas work. It is very large 142.5cm wide x 171.5cm tall x 4.5cm deep.

The idea's inspiration come from a movie marathon idea, where a mashed up of popular movies could interact in a fun and off beat fashion.
The painting which has a unique distressed/scratched finish to emulate the look of old scratchy film reels provides a really interesting matt finish and certainly takes the painting to a much higher level visually.
The included movies and fables include: Cliffhanger, Aliens, Predator, Tequila Sunrise, Spiderman, Star Wars, Gravity, The cow jumped over the moon, Batman and Robin, Close encounters of the third kind, Superman, Jurassic Park, Avatar, Snakes and ladders games, Thelma and Louise, Indiana Jones, Edward Scissorhands, Wizard of Oz, Twister, Flushed Away, Tarzan, Lord of the Rings, Little red riding hood, Three little pigs, Aquaman, Ninja Turtles, Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie and the chocolate factory, Wonder woman, ET, Apollo 12, Godzilla, Scream, Shriek, Planet of the apes and Harry Potter.

The painting starts with Charlie and chocolate factory and the Oompa loompas who are guarding the chocolate river from the Orcs of lord of the rings and the wicked witch from the Wizard of Oz. After Dorothy lands her house on the wicked witch she follows the yellow brick roads finding her friends along the way until they interrupt a fight between  storm troopers from Star Wars and Luke, Leia, friends. Dorothy and friends then get arrested by the stormtroopers and are taken to the mothership by means of Apollo 13 and watch the characters from gravity float through space on the way. Dorothy meets with Darth Vader and they become friends. Princess Leia then goes star bathing with Darth Vader in space.

I could go on forever about the intricate storyline that inspired new characters to join in along the way, but sometimes it is fun to try to guess the storyline as you look deeper into the painting. There are so many relationships going on between characters from differing movies, that it provides endless entertainment and speculation.

An awesome amount of time and effect has gone into this magnificent painting and Karen Elzinga has simply outdone herself with this movie inspired painting for lovers of film classics.

If you would like to create your own movie mash up, get in touch with Karen and commission a painting in her original styling. Karen's work is unlike any other, it is intricate and unique, colourful and vibrant and screams look at me.

TD Parts Gallery Terrance Depietro- 'Follow the yellow brick road...follow the yellow brick road...'And the sound goes on in my head, as I twist and turn down the myriad of pathways of your inventive forms; each piece, an exciting array of vignettes. Not everyone can pull-off a suite of vibrant, non-repetitive, all-over, representational images! Yet you make it seem simplistic. I fear I will be humming that playful tone all night - in delight! Wonderful collection! -tdp .

Underwater Reef -(Distressed Finish) 198cm x 137cm x 4.5cm

Painting Description

Karen Elzinga's latest painting entitled 'Underwater Reef' an acrylic painting on canvas so big it will look stunning on any very large wall space. This photograph does not even come close to how great this work looks in person.

Tipping the scales at almost 2 mts wide, the 198 cm x 137 cm is a huge masterpiece of vibrancy and extreme colour. It just makes you happy looking at it, the way the patterns intertwine, connect and extend across the painting whilst incorporating a theme of scuba divers exploring the underwater coral reef just appeals in so many ways.

A slightly different painted finish for Karen, the surface has been distressed (see the video for better clarity). Karen very much enjoyed creating this totally awesome and unique distressed painting look that she will be doing many more in this style because in her words "The finish is incredible, different and everyone who has seen the painting just loves the distressed nature of finish, it has taken the painting one step further, brilliant l love it, it's my favorite painting to date, it's just so different and super interesting. I just love coral reefs and the feeling of exploring them, the beauty, the splendour, its a unique space that l could paint forever ".

Gallery wrapped (mounted to backing frame with sides painted as per painting front).

Karen is a highly sort after collector/investment artist selling both across Australia, England and the USA. Her latest paintings sell virtually the minute they are available, hence she does numerous commissions with collectors waiting.

As with all of her art her inspiration for one work generally comes from previous works, it's like a progression or an extension of her work, where one painting influences the next and the paintings slowly find new meaning and new content through that. As with most of her paintings Karen is highly influenced by the ocean beaches that surround her, the joy felt, the beach vibrance, energy and excitement felt by visitors and locals.

Her paintings are done in only professional acrylic paints and canvas. Karen's style is original, unique, whimsical in nature, intricate, and abstract in design.

Karen enjoys working in large scale and that certainly presents the wow factor on any wall. A painting this large is a feature wall in itself and will have your visitors green with envy. If you enjoy colour than this painting will not disappoint.

Aussie Culture' - Painting Close Ups

"I would like to say that I absolutely love your painting "Aussie Culture". I'm usually not a fan of paintings with people on it, but this painting is absolutely stunning and full of amazing details. Many thanks for creating this stunning piece of art". S.Ulm (UK)

Distressed Fish- 188cm x 84cm x 2.5cm

Inspiration for the painting

This work has a more environmental approach, l was inspired by the relationship between boating on the ocean and the fish living in the ocean, a torrent of activity above and how that impacts the fish below.

I wanted both to have a sense of panic in the water, the water being stabbed by the boats and the drag and chopping of the water below.

The painting is a mixed media piece with a 3 dimensional section at the bottom with fish elevating from the painting by a physical timber section attached to the painting. This provides an incredible sense that the fish are important to the works message, looks incredible and provides the work with interest and the wow factor.

This painting impacts a wall incredibly well, offering vibrancy, colour and intricate appeal.
